Abbie has been practicing clinical social work in our community for over 25 years.
She approaches her work with a trauma and attachment perspective believing our early experiences shape how we approach relationships. Abbie uses evidence based treatment models to support her clients in releasing detrimental behavior patterns and developing more satisfying responses to life’s experiences. In addition to talk therapy she is skilled in play, sand, art, and psychosensory approaches.
Abbie has extensive international social work experience. She has trained social workers in China, Vietnam, Korea, and The Philippines in how to prepare older children for international adoption and she has presented at international conferences on complex developmental trauma and brain development. She has also visited many orphanages in Bulgaria, Vietnam, Korea,China and The Philippines learning first hand the conditions in which children live. Abbie has worked with domestic and international adoptees for 15 years and is an adoptive mother herself. Many clients who see Abbie find her respectful, knowledgeable, and caring. With her support they mobilize their strengths and develop new skills improving the quality of their lives.
In her personal life Abbie enjoys her fiber art and being with her grandchildren on the family farm.
