Areas of Focus

Cale was trained in Couples and Family Therapy at the University of Oregon’s Counseling Psychology Department in the College of Education.

His work is informed by the belief that individual issues are often rooted in larger family systems issues. Cale says, “Issues like trauma, anxiety and emotional sensitivity are often related to our family history and our ongoing family interactions.”

Cale works with individuals, couples, and families to recognize and celebrate areas of current success, to analyze and adjust problematic communication habits, to highlight and strengthen areas of poor coping, and to explore and re-write negative self-narratives that keep people stuck in misery and conflict. He is experienced in Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Cale is passionate about providing lively and engaging therapy to highly motivated clients. He delivers therapy with an easy manner and a healthy dose of humor and playfulness. He also believes that a genuine emotional connection between therapist and client is highly important for effective therapy, and allows for open communication and honest feedback. Cale is flexible and open to feedback, and his first priority is to listen and believe his clients about their needs and preferences. He strives to create a safe space where people can dare to talk about their past, their pain, their hopes, and their needs.

In his free time, Cale enjoys singing, discussing movies, and exploring local restaurants with his wife.
