7 Tips For Spending The Holidays Alone

December 23, 2021

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is just around the corner and you may find yourself alone. You know that you should be happy but it just feels like a chore. We all have those moments where we’re feeling down and out, but it’s important to remember that being alone during the holidays does not have to be a bad thing. In fact, being alone during this time actually has many advantages whether you are alone or not!

Here are a few tips to make the holidays special for you!

Do Things You Enjoyed As a Kid

Traditions and old favorites can bring us comfort in times of loneliness. So take this time of year to become your kid self again! Watch old movies, indulge in your favorite treats, and just enjoy yourself.

Start Your Big Project

Whether you have been putting something you want to do off, or you are ready to start that next big thing, the holidays may be the best time to do it! Many of us have more free time during the holidays and if you are unable to see family or friends this year, this could be the perfect time to start something!

Volunteer

Its always good to give back when we can, and the holidays are a great time to start! A great way to not feel alone, is to do something bigger than yourself.

Think Back On Your Year

Many of us save this for New Years Eve, but its never too early to think back on your year. Take this time to reflect on your past year. What you loved, what you would have changed, and make plans to take this next year in stride!

Have A Solo Party!

Sometimes it can be so rewarding to make something just for us and the holidays are no different. While you may be unable to spend time with loved ones, take the time to show some self compassion and love. Throw yourself the neatest party you have ever seen. Eat all your favorite foods and have a great time!

People Watch

This may not be the case for all of us, but for some of us, the hustle and bustle of the holiday rush is a tradition in and of itself. If you are feeling a bit lonely this holiday season, head to one of your local outlets or malls and enjoy the atmosphere.

Have A Read-A-Thon/Watch-A-Thon

If you look at your list of things to watch or read and think about how it grows each year, this is the tip for you! Take this time that you have to yourself, and read all the books you have been meaning to, or watch the shows your friends have been begging you to check out. You will have lots of fun, and have something to talk about when you are able to meet up again.

Takeaway

Whatever it is you decide to do this holiday season, the best thing you can do is to take care of yourself! Treat yourself with love and kindness. Even if this holiday season isn’t the most eventful, it can still be a great time to get to know yourself better.
